コルター・スティーブンス大尉 （ジェイク・ギレンホール）。気が付けば、列車の中。 目の前には見知らぬ美女（ミシェル・モナハン）が親しげに、 自分の事をショーンと呼び、話しかけてくる。

おまけに鏡に映る自分の姿を見てびっ くり。

全く見知らぬ男だった。 　いったい何が起きたのか？

『ソースコード』という政府の開発したシステムによって、 テロの犠牲になった男の８分前の意識に入り込み、 犯人を突き止める任務を負った大尉。犯人の手掛かりが見つかるまで、 何度も何度も繰り返される８分間。

「 人間の記憶回路は実はビデオデッキそのもので、それ自体、カットアップ、リミックス、サンプリングが 自由自在の機械であること　」

という話を読んだことがある。ということはこのシステムは人間目線のカメラの内部に入り込み、 それを自分の目を通して再生するようなもの？？

過去へのタイムトリップなら、テロを未然に防ぎ、人々を救うことも可能だけれど、 この場合は、あくまで意識で肉体はない。

コルターが目にするもの全てはもう現在には存在しないものなのだから。なのに、 コルターは目の前にいる女性を救いだそうとするのです。

果たして、どのような結末が待っているのか？

監督は 『月に囚われた男』で鮮烈デビューした ダンカン・ジョーンズ。ただのＳＦアクションに、とどまらない何かに 大いに期待。
