The Syllabus of the Development of Young Children’s Early Literacy, 2006-2007
Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai Campus

SASAKI HIROKO, Ph.D.

Teaching Objectives and Requirements
Early literacy is growing up with the varied human relations, -parent-child relation, teacher- child relation and peers’ relation, teacher -parent relation and so on.
Now many parents want to teach spelling and writing to their children as early as possible. I have criticized this paper-based teaching method for young children. I think early literacy (especially oral communications) is growing up with daily activities. Early literacy is such a complex topic involving many factors, such as the children’s ability to understand words, their emergent literacy skills, early reading and writing, and phonemic awareness.
I think the most important way to develop early literacy is to prepare rich environment for children, such as vocabulary, activities, human relations, opportunities close to nature, and so on.
